If you decide to file a bankruptcy these are the initial costs you may incur.
COURT COSTS – Currently the filing fee to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is $306. The filing fee for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy is $281. Usually the court costs are due up front at the time of filing, however, in certain circumstances, we are able to file a Chapter 13 with a minimum down payment of $50 on the court costs.
CREDIT COUNSELING FEES – The law requires you to complete a credit counseling course with an approved credit counseling agency. In addition, you will be required to complete a financial management course before the court will grant you a discharge. The fees for these courses vary depending upon the company you use. Click here for a list of approved credit counseling agencies and their contact information.
ATTORNEY FEES – The attorney fees I charge vary depending upon the complexity of your case, your financial ability and the type of creditors you owe. I do not charge the same fee in every case so that allows me to charge less for simple cases. My fees and the possibility of payment arrangements will be given to you in writing at our initial consultation and cannot be discussed over the phone.
